It's Friday!

Sophie seems to be excited (just like her mommy and daddy) that it's finally Friday!

My coworker, Joy, whose son was born in March, and I took some pictures of the two little ones in some onesies that the president of the college and his wife gave us. Ian and I had never seen Sophie interact with other babies before, so it was fun to see her jabbering away with Daniel:

Here's Sophie going in for her first kiss!

More California Pics

I know that I said in my last post that I'd post more pics from our trip to California "tomorrow" and I really did try, but blogger wasn't cooperating. And now Ian and I both have pretty bad colds, so it's been an effort just to get every day things done. Luckily, Sophie's cold hasn't evolved into the same thing that Ian and I have. I've posted some pics of Sophie here with her uncles, great grandparents, and great-great grandma. Enjoy!

Here she is with Uncle Kyle:
And with Uncle Matthew:
With great grandma Linda:
With great-great "Grams":
And finally with great grandpa Fine:
I have more pictures still, and my mom has some that she'll be sending me soon, so I'll post some more as they come along.

Sophie's First Big Trip

As many of you know, Sophie and I took our first big trip together last week. We flew (without Daddy, who had to work) to California for Ericka's wedding and to visit my family. My mom had been the only one in my family to have met little Sophie, so needless to say, everyone was very excited. We started out with a very long plane trip that included two flights and a three-hour layover in Dallas. Sophie did great on all of the flights--she fell asleep as we took off and woke up only to eat a couple of times. I did use the help of a little Pediacare to assist her in falling asleep! Here's a picture of her in the Dallas airport--happy as can be!

On Thursday, we took Sophie to the mall to have her pictures done professionally. Our sweet little girl turned into a monster when we laid her on the platform! It took us about 4 hours to get 3 decent pictures. Here's one of the pictures that we didn't get printed. (We did end up getting a couple of smiles out of her, but we didn't get to change her clothes like I had wanted to.)

On Friday, my family and some of my parents' friends stopped by to visit. Here are some family pictures (more to come tomorrow). These are the group pics.

This one is a five-generation picture with Sophie, myself, my mom, my maternal grandma and my great grandma!

Here's a four-generation picture with Sophie, myself, my dad, and my paternal grandpa.

And finally, one of Sophie, myself and my parents:

I'll write more about our trip tomorrow since this is already a long post...

2nd Set of Shots

Yesterday Sophie had her 2nd set of shots. She cried a little, but quieted right down when I picked her up. She now weighs 13 lbs. 9 0z. and measures 27 inches! Only two more inches to go before she outgrows her infant carseat! We also get to start feeding her rice cereal, which should be messy but fun. I guess we'll finally have to invest in a highchair! :-)

We had a great time in California, but more about that when I can upload some pictures. (I tried last night, but blogger wasn't being cooperative.)

Sophie's Video #11

19 NOVEMBER 2006: THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE BLOG. PLEASE EMAIL US IF YOU WOULD LIKE A COPY.

Here is Sophie's latest video, which Mindy filmed two weeks ago Saturday and last Sunday. It's a little long to compensate for our busyness lately--with classes starting up, it's sometimes hard to find the energy to edit and format the video, which takes about an hour. But hopefully we're getting back on track now.

Sophie's getting better and better with hand-eye coordination now, which you can see well in the video. It's been fun to watch her continue to develop. Her movements are still limited enough on her own that she only puts in her mouth what's close to her, but once she starts moving around, we'll have to be a lot more careful.

We had a nice morning yesterday outside. It was nice and cool, so we all sat outside for breakfast and some reading. (Sophie took a nap for most of the time.) Last week we took our longest walk ever, just over one mile to the Deutschklub's (German Club's) "Stammtisch," where people gather to speak German informally. Sophie's become the unofficial Deutschklub mascot, I think, and definitely helped bring people over to its table at a student activities fair during the first week of school. Here's a picture of Sophie there, sporting a pirate's eye patch. I'm not really sure which group was using eyepatches as a give-away.

Exciting Tummy News

Funny that I should have mentioned her tummy time yesterday. When I picked Sophie up yesterday from daycare, one of the women who works in her room (Serena) said that she rolled over from stomach to back! Serena was afraid to tell me because she thought I'd be upset that I missed it. We tried to get her to do it at home, but she was tired and just started crying when she was put on her tummy. I guess we'll try it again tonight!

A Flurry of Activity

Sophie has become much more active lately. She still doesn't really like to be on her stomach, but she'll tolerate it and holds her head up pretty well. Here's a close up:

And here's a picture of her with one of her favorite toys--I think she likes it because it's really easy to grab onto.

Hats and Strangers

Here's a picture of Sophie in a hat--we're looking forward to cooler weather because we think she looks so cute in them!

Also, a new development--Sophie's started to cry (and I mean really cry) when I hand her off to strangers or people she doesn't know well (which basically means everyone except for Ian)! And I thought it was too early for separation anxiety!

Yay, Feet!

Sophie has recently discovered her feet and loves to grab at them. She's started to grab other things too, mainly my hair!
