Out of Batteries

Sorry about the lack of pictures lately...we ran out of batteries for our camera! I took the one below with our video camera, but it doesn't take the greatest quality of pictures, so I'm only posting these two. I just bought new batteries today, so I hope to begin taking pictures again! We have a ton of video from the last couple of weeks, so hopefully later this week, Ian will be able to shrink it down and post that as well. Enjoy!

Sophie taking a nap on the floor (she's been really attached to her pacifiers lately):

I don't know if you can see this very well (our video camera doesn't have a flash), but here's one of Sophie curled up next to Jasper:

Weekly Sophie video #7

10 SEPTEMBER 2006: THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE BLOG. PLEASE EMAIL US IF YOU WOULD LIKE A COPY.

Here is Sophie's latest video. Sorry for the delay, but it's been a hectic time around here. In this video, Sophie is lying on her play mat, which has all sorts of bells and whilstles. Mostly she enjoys watching the lights on the star that plays music and batting at the ladybug. There's a small mirror that I've started to introduce her to, and that fascinates her, too, for a few minutes. We're also working hard to give her some "tummy time" (as the pediatrician calls it--all this medical lingo!), but she has very little patience for it at this point. She's holding up her head well, but the doctors want to build the shoulder stength that being on her stomach brings. Maybe sometime soon she'll discover the joys of "airplane," which I apparently loved as a baby.

A New Crib

Ian went and picked up Sophie's crib yesterday in Lexington--we decided it's probably the nicest piece of furniture we own!

She seemed to like her trial run right after I put the sheets on, and slept well in it last night. After having her in the pack 'n' play, she seems so small in this bed!

Also, her great grandma Linda sent us a package this week that had this duck that's the same size as she is--she liked posing with it on the couch: (**Post script: I noticed after posting this that Sophie is actually flipping off the camera! It's such a cute picture, though, so I'm leaving it on...)

And tried to eat it!

A Tall Drink of Water

Sophie had her 6-week doctor's appointment yesterday and all is well! She now weighs 10 lbs. 10 oz. and is 24 1/2 inches long! Her length puts her in the 97th percentile--she's bound to be a tall one! She also got her first round of shots, and we heard her "I'm hurt" cry for the first time. It was horrible--I don't know how the nurses are able to give those shots every day! She's doing well, though, after being fussy yesterday. We haven't taken too many pictures recently because we've been busy trying to unpack, but here's a family picture taken on the 4th of July:

Poop on Duke

Well, we've confirmed that Sophie is a Carolina fan all the way--the other day she pooped on my only Duke t-shirt! (Disclaimer: I only have a Duke shirt because I got it free when I worked for them one summer.) She said that Grandpa Fine should beware of any Duke paraphanelia that he wears around her because it might just turn into dookie paraphanelia! Here's a picture of how I'm sure she was feeling inside when she thought about her accomplishment:

And for all of those patient Sophie fans, here is a sweet smile for you all:

It's been a while, but we're now almost completely moved into the house, and we also had a visit from Grandma and Grandpa Schmidt over the weekend of the 4th. Sophie's next video will appear in just a couple of days.
