So Big...and So Sleepy!

Daddy's finally home, and Sophie is very glad to have him home (as is Mommy!). We both think that Sophie has gotten bigger since he left, and she's learned a couple of new tricks.

She has finally learned the "So Big" game:

And she has taken to sleeping on her knees--I think it's so she can start crawling as soon as she wakes up! She doesn't want to be slowed down by anything, including sleeping position!

Visiting Mommy at Work

On Wednesday, Sophie visited me at work. My coworker had her mom bring her son in as well, and we had an afternoon play date. (I love spring break!) Here are a couple of pics from the afternoon:

Sophie hasn't pulled herself up to the standing position since the first time she did it a couple of weeks ago, but I put her up to the table where her friend Daniel was standing, and she seemed to enjoy herself:

Here she is with our friend Ruth, who stopped by to see Sophie:

Do you think she's excited???

Daniel grabbed Sophie's ear, and although I don't think it really hurt, she put quite the show on!

9-month Doctor Appointment

We had Sophie's 9-month doctor's appointment today. She's almost 10 months old, but since there aren't any shots at this appointment, the timing isn't so critical. She's very healthy and her ear infection has cleared up. She now weighs 21 lbs. 6 oz., measures 30 inches long, and has a 45 cm head circumference! That puts her roughly in 90-95th percentile for length, 75-90th percentile for weight and 50-75th percentile for head circumference.

So, there you have it...she's a big girl!

Playing with Grandpa Wilson

As promised, here are some pictures of Sophie playing with Grandpa Wilson!

Reading a book (surprise, surprise!):

She is very interested in people's mouths right now:

A Visit from Grandpa and Grandma Wilson

Sophie's Grandpa and Grandma Wilson visited her yesterday on their way back from an anniversary trip in Pittsburgh. Sophie stayed home to play with them all day, and although it was rainy and miserable outside, they had a great time playing inside. I have some pictures with Grandpa Wilson, too, that I'll post once I upload them from the camera.

Sophie made them read her several stories:

And I'm not sure who wore out who!

Stuck!

Sophie is getting around so much these days, it's incredible what kinds of situations she gets herself into! Here's a picture of her stuck in a little walking toy of hers:

Ian is gone this week, and she seems to miss him. Yesterday she was very clingy with me and she got very serious when I showed her a picture of daddy on the computer and when he talked to her on the cell phone. We're making do, though. Her grandpa and grandma Wilson are coming to visit tonight and will be here until Wednesday morning, so I'm sure she'll get all the attention she wants while they're here!

A New Video!

Well, it's been months and months since I posted a video. We've been making them, but I just haven't had the time to edit and post them. I'm heading to Italy today for a week, and partially for the fun of watching her as I edited the video, and partially for you, too, even, we took some video yesterday evening and I got it ready early this morning.

It shows Sophie eating her finger foods, including her favorite mozzarella cheese, and then playing with Mindy. She's been pointing at everything lately, and here she started pointing at . . . well, you'll see. Suffice it to say that this is further proof that she will be a lover of literature.

All Grown Up!

I've finally uploaded the pictures from our camera, and I thought that I'd post a couple of Sophie helping her mommy and daddy with their work.

Here she is "helping" mommy fold clothes:

And here she is "helping" daddy read King Lear by Shakespeare. She seemed to enjoy listening to him read it outloud. Good thing since she's not going to get away with disliking literature with Ian and I as parents!

Animal Sounds

So, I think we're all just about well again, but I still haven't had time to upload any new pictures to the computer. So, instead, I'll list some new things that Sophie has been doing lately:

  • The biggest thing is that she loves to make animal noises! She makes monkey noises that are usually linked to seeing or playing with one of her stuffed monkeys. She also makes a mooing noise that sounds more like "mmmmmm," a meow noise that she reserves for the cats, and a barking noise that sounds like "ah." (She does this one when she hears a dog barking.) It's a lot of fun to see her associate sounds with animals or objects.
  • She's crawling around like crazy and sits up on her knees.
  • The other day, she pulled herself up into a standing position in her crib. I haven't seen her do it anywhere else yet, though, so I think it was as much as a surprise to her as it was to me that she was able to do it!
  • She loves taking walks. The last few days here have been beautiful, so we've been able to get outside. She jabbers away the entire time and is curious about everything. She doesn't really like the feel of grass, though.
  • She's been eating a lot of table food. Her favorites so far are avocado, mozarella cheese, tuna, and bologna. She'll tolerate broccoli, cauliflower and tomatos, and likes peaches, but finds them hard to pick up. She likes the taste but not the texture of pears. And she hates, hates, hates bananas! She'll put it in her mouth (I think she thinks it's a piece of cheese), but will gag on it and spit it out almost immediately. We've also given her tastes of our food, and she really likes bagels and brownies.
  • At her ear infection appointment, she weighed 20 lbs. 13 ounces. Hopefully, they'll measure her length next week at our follow up appointment. To put this into perspective, my coworker's son, who is 3 months older than Sophie, was weighed yesterday and was 21 lbs. (and he's not a small boy!). The funny thing is that Sophie is definitely not chubby by any stretch of the imagination. People always call her "petite," but she's just so tall that she looks a lot smaller than she really is.

Well, that's it for now. I'm going to try really, really hard to post some pictures soon!

It's Been a While...

I don't have any pictures to post today, but I thought I'd give an update on our lives since it's been a couple of weeks since we've posted anything.

A quick run-down:
  • Sophie got pink eye again, but I think we have that under control now.
  • Ian and I have both been very busy at work.
  • Ian and I both got colds (which so far, knock on wood, Sophie has been able to avoid). Ian is pretty much over his cold, but I'm still fighting mine.
  • We found out at a 7:50pm doctor's appointment last night (yes, last night!) that Sophie has an ear infection. She's been fussy at night and ran a fever yesterday, but hopefully now that she's on antibiotics, she'll start feeling better.

So, now you all know why we haven't had the time or energy to post or take any pictures lately. Hopefully, we'll get back into the swing of things again before Ian leaves for Italy next week!
