Thanksgiving in Wisconsin

We spent Thanksgiving in Wisconsin, and Sophie had a great time! She was great during the car rides and loved playing with her grandparents and aunts, uncle and cousin. More pictures to come tomorrow!

Here's a picture with her Aunt Heather:

And a picture at the LaCrosse lights festival with Grandma and Grandpa Schmidt:

Sophie's First Snow

We thought that Sophie's first snow might be in Wisconsin, but we were surprised by a little snow on the ground the Monday before Thanksgiving here in Kentucky. Here's a picture of our house and one of Sophie posing with Daddy.

Finally! A new Sophie video

13 AUGUST 2007: THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE BLOG. PLEASE EMAIL US IF YOU WOULD LIKE A COPY.

So finally, here's a new video of Sophie, shot over the course of the last week. We've shot a lot between the last video and this one, but this will have to do for now. Sorry it's been so long, but I hope you enjoy it.

A Long Week

We haven't posted any pictures recently because we've been dealing with Sophie having the flu. Luckily, I think she finally has it just about beat, but she was sick for about a week with vomiting and diarrhea. On Saturday she was a little dehydrated, so we had to break out the pedialyte for the first time ever. It was a long, messy time. She finally ate a normal amount of food yesterday, so I'm hoping that she'll be all well to travel to Wisconsin to visit her grandparents for Thanksgiving! I'll try to post some pictures later this week when I get a chance.

Sophie the Clotheshorse

As many of our posts show, Sophie is quite attracted to striking a fashionable pose. One recent cold day, she donned the hat below, handknitted by the mother of our colleagues, Profs. John (our former Dean) and Maryanne Ward. They have retired from Centre and moved to Maine. They recently welcomed their first grandchild to the world. Congratulations to the Wards!

The Weight on My Shoulders

Mindy's in Chicago this week for a conference, so I've got Sophie on my own. She's so incredibly easy to deal with that it's been simple to some extent, but managing to take care of her with only one set of hands, even only in the morning and evening, has been a little tricky and pretty exhausting. I really don't know how single parents manage. We're definitely looking forward to Mindy coming home! Still, we're having a good time (though Sophie's got a bit of a cold again, it seems). Here's a picture of my little "burden" sitting on my shoulders for the very first time.

Sleepy Girl

Sophie is not the kind of girl to skip a meal, but this week has been hard on her because of the time change. She fell asleep while eating earlier this week (which she never does!) and was like a rag doll when Ian was trying to burp her! I thought the pictures of the whole episode were kind of cute...

A Little Cough

No pictures today, but I do have a little story to tell. Ian and I have had some colds this fall (and the coughs that go with them). I also have a little cough that's often related to my asthma, but I do it so often that I don't even notice it any more. Well, apparently Sophie has...she's started doing a fake cough to get attention! If we're not paying her sufficient attention or if someone is walking by that she wants to notice her, she does a little "heh-heh-heh" cough. It's so hard not to laugh and make a big deal out of it because it's so cute, but the more we make of it, the more she does it!

An Autumn Stroll

We had a beautiful Sunday here, so our little family took a walk around our neighborhood. Sophie seemed to enjoy being outside and in her stroller...
